Outreach at St. Stephen’s is committed to helping those suffering in poverty by assisting in tangible projects that align with the church’s statement of being: Rooted. Inspired. Growing. Come as you are.
Bundle of Hope Diaper Bank
We collect diapers of all sizes for children, wipes, and monetary donations all year. Donations are then counted, divided, and distributed to local agencies. Organizations outside of St. Stephen’s are welcome to host diaper drives to contribute to our Diaper Bank for counting and distribution. Although we take donations all year, there are special times when we make a push for donations.
St. Stephen’s Outreach Team is exploring a new opportunity to meet a need in our community and serve our neighbors at Erie City Mission. Currently no community meals are served on Saturday evening in Erie. For more details about this new ministry and how to sign up, please check out the information page.
Glory to God Garden (G3)
The Garden Project at St. Stephen’s is sprouting and growing. Our mission is to grow vegetables and fruit on some of the church’s abundant property to supply local food pantries. We have chosen a site and visited other similar gardens in the area to learn from their experiences. Next we begin making decisions about the size and scope of our garden, investigating funding sources, creating our budget and our five year plan. All of us in the planning group are VERY excited about this new mission and ministry.
Food Bank Work-shifts & Food Drive
Work-shifts are set up with the local food bank and teams of parishioners sign up to volunteer during those shifts. We have a food drive every other year where we collect food for a month and then deliver the donations to the food bank during our next scheduled work shift.
Mother’s Day & Father’s Day Kits
We collect personal hygiene items and kits for those in need that (usually) benefit SafeNet and the City Mission, respectively. Kits are collected in the weeks leading up to the respectively holiday and blessing during Sunday worship on that day.
Christmas Outreach Programs
We host an Adopt-a-Wish List, normally for Community Shelter Services, to provide gifts for adults/children in need during the holiday season. We also collect mittens/scarves/hats for the tree which are also donated to a local shelter.
The Outreach Committee meets quarterly. If you would like to attend, please call the church office for the date of the next meeting. Stay up to date with our outreach projects through our weekly email announcements or check the bulletin board in the church hall.
